With a Grand success of Mi3, Mi4 flagship devices and other sideline variants like redmi note, mi4i etc, Xiaomi is ready with MI5 – A new flagship device to conquer the smartphone market for the second time. It has been learnt from the administrative sources of Xiaomi that the Launch Date for MI5 is fixed to February 24 2016 with a price tag of 300$ (Rs. 20k). with their new flagship Mi 5 Xiaomi is confident enough to outreach other competent brands like OnePlus, Meizu & Huawei.
MI5 is coming along with a bigger variant named Mi5 Plus which is similar to Mi5 in almost all aspects except for the bigger screen(5.7″ display).
Display on the Mi5 is 5.3 inches IPS LCD which is little enhanced of the one on its predecessor (Mi4). But with a dept of 554 PPI pixel density and 1440 x 2560 pixels they’ve hopped a distance here.
Mi5 is rumored to have a curved edges on both sides of the display as in Galaxy S6 edge but some say that curved version will be released later as a variant in the early March 2016. Lets wait till Feb 24th to confirm the same.
Mi5 comes with MIUI 7 powered with lollipop version of the android which is expected to be updated to MiUi 8 with Marshmallow 6.0.x. The chip set used here is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 with a Quad-core 2.2 GHz & Quad core 1.8 GHz dual CPU and Adreno 530 GPU. With which one can expect it to top the benchmark list for this year.
As usual it has got two cameras and the Main rear camera is of 16 MP with features like auto-focus, Geo-tagging, touch focus, face/smile detection, panorama, HDR, OIS and dual LED flash.
The Front/Selfie camera is of 6MP where we were expecting Xiaomi to do something more to impress selfie lovers.
Just like its predecessor, Mi5 doesn’t support MicroSd card option which leaves you with only one option, i.e. opting for the 64 Gb version instead of the 16 Gb version Where both of them comes with a 4 GB RAM.
We recommend you with the 64 GB version if you love adding lot of media on your phone as the 16 GB version leaves you only <10 GB of the user available memory.
On the power profile it has a Non-removable Li-Po 3030 mAh battery which can on a smaller display size can definitely last for a day for power users and more than a day on average usage.
Xiaomi is well known for their pricing, build quality and user interface so we shall expect the phone to outreach our expectations. For those who are looking into a mid range smartphone, we suggest them waiting for Mi5 to be launched.
