As it turns out, the best HTC phone might not be the One X or the One X+. Available exclusively through Verizon, HTC has one of the best Android phones that have come out in the market at the HTC Droid DNA.
Let’s see what makes this phone special:
This phone is large yet thin at the same time. It is 5.6 inches tall and 2.7 inches wide but just .38 inches thick. It has a very simple design but it still jumps at you. The red highlights on the sides are a great complement to the black polycarbonate body of the phone. It is pretty comfortable to hold as well, with the rubber feel of its rear part. The overall look makes it look like a really premium phone.
The 5-inch Super LCD 3 Screen extends to the borders of the phone so HTC did not have to extend the size of the device. It has a very sharp resolution at 1080p that translates to 440ppi, according to HTC. All the details, from texts to images look crisp and vibrant.
This is one of the few Android phones that actually have the Jellybean 4.1 OS outside of the Nexus phones. Sure it is not 4.2, but it is still Jellybean. It is layered with Sense 4+, which slightly changes the feel of the OS. But otherwise, it works. It is able to take care of all the tasks that a phone usually encounters from games, GPS, Bluetooth, RingCentralVoIP services, and Internet browsing. And with 4G connection, web related tasks are performed at blinding speeds. The Droid DNA also features some of its own apps like their own Music App and Slacker Internet radio app.
The DNA boasts of HTC Image Chip, which is a special electronic made to enhance the image processing of the device. In addition, the DNA also has the same features that made the HTC One Series great camera phones, which include Burst Mode, HDR Mode and Panorama. Its autofocus is also pretty fast in locking in to images even when slightly moving. You can even take pictures while the video camera is running. In front of the phone is a 2MP shooter that is capable of shooting video in 1080p HD, which is adequate for your video conferencing needs.
The great thing about having Jellybean OS is that Google made it a point to make it faster and smoother through what they call Project Butter. Combine that with a 1.5 GHz quad-core Snapdragon S4 and 2GB of RAM, and you have one of the fastest devices outside of a Nexus phone. Benchmark tests support this as it clocked an impressive 8,165 on the Quadrant benchmark. The downside is its memory has no SD card slot so you would have to be content with its internal memory offering.
Its 2,020 mAh battery has average life but is just in line with most flagship phone’s battery life outside the Motorola Droid Razr Maxx HD.
This is the best HTC android phone and can definitely give top phones like the iPhone and the Samsung S3 and Note 2 a run for its money. It has a premium look and feel that is backed up by ridiculous speed and precision. The only negative I can think of is that it has no SD card slot and that it could use a battery with more juice.
